The tarmac of the London International Airport was transformed into a test of strength, teamwork and community spirit as teams raced to pull giant airplanes 50 feet in support of United Way Elgin Middlesex (UWEM).

The second annual event saw teams from Western join dozens of other teams from companies and organizations across the city, raising money to help tackle poverty in our community.

Bright skies and sunshine matched the mood of participants for the event which last year raised more than $50,000 in support of UWEM.

Students from Western’s Commercial Aviation Management (CAM) program played a key role as lead volunteers corralling teams, guiding them on and off the runway and answering questions about the event and about Western’s aviation program.

Western is a founding partner and sponsor of the Plane Pull — Jackie Book, Director of CAM played an instrumental role in connecting the right people and organization last year to make the inaugural event possible.
